The Client

Our client is an established boat manufacturer based out of Canada. He specializes in manufacturing affordable, durable and light boats by combining traditional and advanced materials, and markets them to customers in Canada and USA.

The Requirement

The client had immediate requirement for an e-commerce website through which he could sell his boats, as well as educate customers about different types of boats. He wanted the website to be fully secure and have third-party payment and shipment gateway integration. Since a large chunk of his business came from the Francophone regions of Canada, he also wanted the website to be bilingual (French and English). He approached Flatworld Solutions based on our reputation in providing world-class e-commerce solutions to global clients.

The Challenge

During the course of the project, we faced numerous challenges including -

• We had to ensure the website allowed payment through both Canadian Dollars as well as US Dollars. In order to provide this feature, we had to integrate relevant state and provincial taxes based upon the currency and geolocation of the customer
• The website had to be supported across multiple domains
• The client wanted an in-depth boat customization option available for his customers through the website, allowing them to choose the color of the boat, and add accessories, amongst others

The Solution

In order to complete the project within the requested time period, while ensuring all client specifications were adhered to, we took the following steps -

• We decided to use OpenCart as the preferred solution for the client's website, and customized it according to his request
• We implemented a Geolocation based payment and taxation solution in order to ensure that the customers from both USA and Canada could make their purchases hassle-free
• We used HostGator to host two different domains (in English and French) for his website
• We added an exhaustive, customer-friendly customization option named "Pimp My Boat" for his website
