Case Study on HDR Image Editing

The Client

Flatworld Solutions was contacted by a leading large-scale photography, video production, and 360-degree virtual tour service based in the United States. This company offered these services for a range of industries, most notably hotels and resorts, construction sites, and other real estate properties.

The client was in need of a partner to help them with High Dynamic Range (HDR) image editing, which included flash. There were over 80,000 raw images and photographs of hotels and other properties that had to be edited, and the project needed to be completed in 20 days. The client also wanted flash to be removed from the photos, and blended using the HDR technique.

The company contacted Flatworld Solutions and requested trial editing. Once they received back the samples, they were very impressed, and chose to work with Flatworld Solutions for their HDR Image Editing service.

The Challenge

Team at Flatworld Solutions faced several challenges while completing this project as we had to deliver the project within 20 days. The major challenges included:

• Huge Quantity of Work - There were over 80,000 raw images in 177 folders that needed to be completed within a short timeframe
• Large Size Files - The files had to be transferred to Flatworld Solutions using our secure FTP protocols. But as the file size was very large, which - even with up to date equipment - it required significant time to complete the download
• Image Editing Time - It generally takes 30 minutes to edit 1 image, and there were 80,000 images to be completed within 20 days
• Download Speed - The download speed also proved to be challenging, as it became more difficult to receive feedback from the client. The images would take long to download, delaying the feedback review process

The Solution

Flatworld Solutions put 10 resources on the project, and each one of them received special training from the client in their exact requirements and specifications. Flatworld Solutions also shared FTP with the client, to avoid some of the challenges associated with using the client's FTP. The client also sent some images in the hard disk format.

The team at Flatworld Solutions successfully removed flash from all images using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop, and blended the images using HDR blending techniques. Our Quality Assurance Team finally looked at each of the images to ensure the highest level of accuracy.

The Results

Flatworld Solutions was successfully able to finish off the client's backlog of images within the timeframe provided. The images were also completed with exceptional accuracy, surpassing the 95% accuracy level that was set as the client's benchmark.
